Another year another post...

I'm not entirely sure I should continue with this blog but what the heck...

I've just spent another year abroad and the Pan has been mothballed the whole time. I have cleared it out and fallen at the first hurdle as the battery has died a death. Two years from a battery seems a bit poor but this one has been deep-discharged beyond any hope of recovery.
I live out in rural France now and the cost of the replacement has been, er, frightening to say the least.

Also, the low use and storage for the last two years means that the tyres are looking perished so that is also on the replacement list as an urgent priority. I shudder to think what that is going to cost.

First things first, I guess. Let's get the battery in and the oil flushed and see how we go from there...

Hello Mike

I'm PTex from Lisbon, Portugal, and i have following your blog for a while..

First thing firts: A way to prevent this is the Optimate charger. This charger is very usefull for those who ride not very often in the PAN.

I'm too a FAN and owner of this bike, for 3 years, and i ride evary day, sow i never realy had this battery problem!

Please visit my homepage (www.mypaneuropean.com), and good luck for your bike mantence!

I've had an Optimate for years and they are great. Unless you are away from home for a few weeks and the power trips.

When I get back, all is dark and the battery is deep-discharged. Intelligent chargers like the Optimate can mitigate some of the damage caused but ultimately these batteries just aren't designed for this sort of abuse.

Well, the battery is the "weak link" of the PAN when its parked for days...

However if we ride regularly you now that problem thosen't exists. I heard that, the best thing to do before going out, is to take the batery out of the bike... Well, i dont now if it works, but maybe its true...
